One of Tampa's great home-grown family business started in the 1890s as the Tampa Cycle Company. There were less than 10,000 people living in Tampa, when young Fred Ferman set up his bicycle shop. When he heard about the new-fangled automobile, he and one of his employees decided to build one out of bicycle parts and an engine. Before long Ferman became Tampa's first automobile dealer.
